Rowtor Reviews

Michael
Our 2nd year at Rowtor a quiet place to stay. A fabulous location with great access to numerous walks, both on the doorstep and further afield. Accommodation top class with plenty of space for 6. Equipment good although more mugs & tea towels would be useful. Thoroughly recommend the Red Lion for good value food and a warm welcome. We all love it!
Excellent communication from the start with all the information we sought being answered thank you Shelley. Very clean property, well looked after. The location was ideal for our needs with lots to visit in the area.
Well, second time staying here and we just cant fault this property. Amazing facilities, comfortable, great views, access to local walks or you can drive further afield. Access to local amenities, Bakewell and Matlock both within 1520 minutes away. The kitchen is well equipped with great appliances, cooking utensils etc. The hosts are really responsive, had a small issue which was resolved efficiently and nothing to do with the property, just a result of being surrounded by nature, Chris is a really nice guy! Rowter really is a home from home, we like it so much its booked again for next year! Thank you
We had a lovely stay at Rowtor in Birchover. The cottage was beautifully presented, very clean, and extremely comfortable, with everything we needed for a relaxing break. It felt welcoming from the moment we arrived with the additional touch of fizz, homemade fudge and Bakewell tart and was well laid out for a stress free stay. The location is excellent for exploring the Peak District, with scenic walks straight from the door and the village itself being quiet and charming. After busy days out, it was a pleasure to return to such a cosy and peaceful cottage. Rowtor is a fantastic base for a Peak District holiday and we would happily recommend it. We would definitely consider booking again.

Accommodation perfect for our first family Christmas away. Kitchen well equipped with a large open plan area for us all to mix. Loved the location. So peaceful and so many beautiful walks, right from the doorstep and the added bonus of two very good pubs in the village. The Druids Inn was so welcoming to all of us. We couldn't have had a better experience. Owners very friendly and helpful. Absolutely loved it!
Our 3rd stay in this lovely cottage. We love it for the spacious rooms, beautiful decor, comfy beds. The location is excellent for walks, sightseeing or just chilling in the local pub.
We have just returned from this cottage & wish to place on record our supreme satisfaction of this truly beautiful holiday accommodation. It was perfect for us & our daughter, son & their partners. They were able to take beautiful walks direct from the cottage & afterwards relax in the warmth & comfort of this well appointed, spacious & well fitted home. Haddon halls Xmas market was a delight. I would like to recommend future visitors to take a meal out at Aroma Lounge Kashmiri restaurant Darley Dale, The food & service were of the very highest standard. All in all a truly great holiday

Beautifully appointed, fantastic location and a friendly welcome.

We absolutely loved our time at Rowtor, spotlessly clean, great facilities, beautiful location and scenery, and we enjoyed the pubs! Prosecco, Bakewell Pie and home made fudge on arrival was a lovely touch. We are already planning our return, we had such a relaxing time even with 2 little ones. Thank you.
Laurent
Excellent cottage!
Angela

Rajveer
Great secluded location, top notch facilities and a very comfortable stay for a large group. Would definitely recommend!
A lovely and spacious property. Walks from the door and 2 great pubs just a short walk away. Communication was great from initial booking right up to our stay. Stayed a week and will definitely be back. Thank you
Denise
We all had a wonderful time staying at 'Rowtor. ' The property exceeded our expectations and was bigger than we had imagined. It was decorated beautifully throughout with all mod cons and a lovely kitchen with lots of useful utensils to use. It was spotlessly clean on arrival which meant we could start our holiday and relax straight away. A welcome pack on arrival was very much appreciated too. We particularly loved the showers which had excellent water pressure and we were reluctant to leave behind! The bathroom and shower rooms were modern and clean and shower gel and hand cleanser was provided, which was a nice touch. There was a large dining table which was great to sit at for meals together and a very large comfy corner settee to sit and read a nice selection of books, mapstourist info too or watch the large TV. The property was very spacious, with a coat and boot area which came in very handy. There were also two great local pubs and plenty of places to eat around the area the property guide had lots of suggestions and information which was much appreciated. It was nice to have the table outside and lawned garden area to sit in when the sun shone. The converted barn is situated above the village of Birchover, not far from Bakewell and is set in a very beautiful landscape with stunning views and perfectly placed to explore The Peak District National Park. We were made to feel very welcome and would highly recommend the property to anyone thinking of visiting the area. There are numerous walks in the local area and we would definitely like to return to explore more of them. It really is a stunning place to stay and we couldn't have wished to stay anywhere nicer. We visited lots of different areas of the Peak District and still have a long list of places we'd like to visit in the future and we would love to stay at 'Rowtor' in Uppertown again. We would like to thank the owners and manager for accommodating us on our holiday and for all the emails and info before we came. Thank you!

Excellent 1 week family get together in the Rowtor at Birchover. The accommodation was ideal for the 9 of us, 6 adults and 3 children 11,8,3 and had all of the facilities required. Some of our group had travelled over from a residential area on the East Coast of the States so were in awe of the beautiful countryside surrounding the cottage. We would 100 recommend a stay here and will definitely look to stay here again in the future.
A wonderful one week stay at Rowtor. House is fantastic and very comfortable. Views and area are great with the village and pubs a short walk away. Matlock is a short drive where you have a large supermarket. Contrary to the house description the downstairs bedrooms do not have a Jack and Jill bathroom, but each bedroom has a large onsuite. The onsuite for the upstairs bedroom is small but adequate. Would definitely recommend.
Robert
Loved our stay in this property. Clean, airy and comfortable with everything we needed at hand. Convenient for getting around and exploring the area which we did extensively. We would definitely recommend the Druid inn down the road as we had some excellent meals there. Yes there are 5 steps to the property but my 90 year old father negotiated them daily. Everything great for our week including the weather. We recommend this property to others.
Michael
Lovely quiet setting, very clean, spacious cottage for 3 couples. Perfect location for walking several well documented hikes within 5 miles some starting from the door. Owner, called to check if we had settled in o.k. nice touch. Local pub Red Lion very friendly, good food and reasonably priced. Think we'll be returning next year.
We had a super stay at Rowtor. One observation that would improve the property is please fit handrails to the upper bedroom.Location is superb to visit the locality.
Peter Jonathan
It was great. Good location in the peak district. Well furnished and comfortable accommodation.
Beautiful location with fabulous views and furnished to a very high standard with everything you could need for a great holiday. Local pubs within walking distance and perfectly situated for visiting Bakewell and Matlock and loads of other very interesting places. Would highly recommend this property.
A fantastic property, located in between Matlock and Bakewell. Amazing 360 views, great sunsets and so many local walks you can do just from the house. Very comfortable, has everything you need to cook clean and today up! There was only two of us staying there so more than enough space, a great TV and selection of board games for relaxing in the evening. A hoover would handy however, not essential as a broom, dustpan and brush and a speedmop all provided I am just lazy! If you havent booked it then you need to ask yourself why?! We are looking at booking again and we havent even been home for 24hours yet!
Philip
The property was perfect Fantastic location, funished & kept to an extremely high standard The local property manager for Sykes Shelley was excellent, sorting out a small issue immediately. Would definitely stay here again, highly recommended
5 star property.
This was our second visit to Rowtor Cottage. Can't fault this lovely place, so comfy & spacious, perfect for friends or family gatherings. Walks from the door & great pubs close by, don't miss Sunday lunch at the Red Lion! Hope to be back soon. Val
We were very impressed with Rowtor. It was beautifully presented and exceptionally clean. We loved the open plan kitchen and sitting room so light and airy with superb views. The bedrooms were spacious, the beds very comfortable and the bathrooms nice and modern. As a party of 6 friends it worked perfectly with us each having our own bed with the two ground floor beds having been split into twins, the mezzanine sofa bed and the upstairs one. The location was great, surrounded by fabulous countryside and great walks.
Beautiful accommodation, with very large rooms and furnished to a very high standard. Everything we needed was there. Spotlessly clean. Communication from the hosts was very prompt.
A beautiful property, in a picturesque location. All the bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas are pristine, it really was a home from home. We are already planning when to return!
A lovely property to stay in for our first visit to The Peak District. It had everything we needed for the four of us, my daughter and her two boys, 12 and nearly 14. Everything is done to a very high standard. The beds were extremely comfortable and the showers powerful. The main area was spotlessly clean but my daughter did find a lot of dust under one of the beds when retrieving a sock which explained why my younger grandson kept sneezing in his room! The garden is at the front of the property and as it was October when we stayed we didnt make much use of it but had it been the sort of weather to eat outside then one would be in full view of the other properties. This wouldnt particularly bother us but some people may prefer a little more privacy. The area is beautiful and we visited a few National Trust places and Dovedale an Ilam Park are definitely worth visiting as is The Heights of Abraham. Also Chatsworth is only about 15 minutes away and that was very enjoyable. We did wonder why there was no visitors book as we enjoy reading other peoples comments and advice on where to go. Lastly we appreciated the goodies that were left for us, thank you. I would thoroughly recommend this property.
Rowtor was a wonderful place to spend a weeks holiday in the Peak District wish we could have stayed longer! Hopefully we can return on another occasion!
Very comfortable cottage with beautiful views from all windows. Pity we had to cut short our visit. Only negative comment is that you have to walk across grass to get from the gate to the door. When wet, shoes get muddy and track mud indoors. A few stepping stones would be helpful. We plan on coming back though!
We were very happy with all the facilities at the cottage everything we needed ... We were very happy with all the facilities at the cottage everything we needed was there The owner lives on site and came to check we were happy with everything we did appreciate the goodies left for us
Absolutely stunning property, the owners have done an amazing job, it was lovely and warm on our arrival and spotlessly clean, really comfortable beds and 5 star furnishings, we have stayed in a lot of properties and this is definitely one of the best.
We really enjoyed our stay at Rowtor. The beautifully converted barn is modern and stylish with everything you need for a very comfortable stay. There is a large secure facility for storing bicycles. There are stunning views all around the property. Excellent location for walks and cycling, although very hilly, but the nearby Monsal and Tissington Trails are perfect for a very scenic and less challenging bike ride. The village was within walking distance with a couple of great pubs, particularly The Druid Inn. The property owners live in the farm house opposite and were very friendly and helpful giving us some tips on local walks.
Fantastic cottage with everything we could wish for. Thank you
Raazen
It was an absolute joy to spend a week here in this amazing cottage. The facilities were top notch and the area was just of of this world, Would highly recommend to anyone who wants a nice reclusive place to stay.
Jeremy
