The Old Croft Reviews

Absolutely lovely property. The furnishings are very quaint. Everything you could hope for was there. Luckily the rain didn't get us as the tumble dryer wasnt working, as they were waiting for a part. Overall could not fault it. The garden was fabulous and the dog enjoyed a good run around in there. It is a dog friendly property but they do not allow your pets upstairs so be aware of this if they normally sleep with you. Great position of property. Perhaps 3 words would be good to actually pinpoint where it was as we got there alittle later as it got dark and came from a different direction to the directions given. We did go up onto the main road in the end and follow it from that way to find property.

Our holiday has been completely overshadowed by the unjust deduction of the Good Housekeeping Bond of 450 charged to my credit card. The accusations of damage to the property that supposedly occurred during our stay are totally unfounded. When we entered the property on Friday 22nd August we were immediately aware that the curtains and curtain rail in the single room were missing. Further inspection located thrown in the wardrobe in the bedroom with the ensuite. As we were aware of the Good Housekeeping Bond we immediately reported this to Sykes Cottages at approximately 5 pm speaking to an employee called Robin. We were told that this would be reported to the owner of the property to sort out. We heard nothing from the owner. The owners subsequent accusation that curtains were pulled off their bracket on the wall is a complete and utter lie. In fact we carried a temporary repair to the curtain rail and curtains when it was clear that the owner was going going to take any responsibility. Further inspection of the property revealed further problems with the cleanliness and state of the property. Soiled sanitary products were found in a bin in the bathroom, completely unhygienic. The sink in the bathroom was slow to drain and could have been partially blocked. Blinds throughout the property were in poor repair. There was also a note in the property information pack that the tumble dryer did not work as it was awaiting a part to facilitate repair. This appeared to be an old note and would suggest that the owner has done little to keep the property in good repair. Again these items were reported. I did receive a text message from Graham at Thorough Clean North West Ltd asking whether we would like us to pop over and empty it the bin for you. As for the curtain rail when Sykes phoned us we said they need to get a handyman out to fix it. I replied that we had emptied the bin ourselves. With regards to the owner's accusation that there was damage to the oak wardrobe door that has been pulled of its hinges on the top right corner the door was just being closed when it just collapsed. When this happened we immediately reported it to Sykes. The owner also states that Roman blinds were left knotted and tied up not how they were found on arrival. Part of that statement is true that we left them knotted and tied up. However that was precisely how we found them on arrival and we thought that this was done on purpose as it was quite dangerous to exit through the patio doors without getting your feet caught up in the binds, which was clearly a danger hazard given the poor state of the blinds. We find it interesting that the owner did not contact us during our stay if advised regarding the issues we had encountered but chose to enter the property shortly after we left and reported the socalled damage to get the Good Housekeeping Bond activated. Pity they are not quite so keen to properly maintain the property. We are extremely disappointed that Sykes have actioned the Bond within hours of our departure without allowing us to state our case. I look forward to the Bond being refunded. With regard to the holiday we enjoyed the location of the property and Hartington itself. I believe the owners and cleaners must accept most of the blame.

Lovely spacious cottage ,in a great location, enjoyed saying Hi to the cows in the opposite field. Very comfy beds, lots of hot water for the shower and large kitchen with lots of storage. Could have done with a few more coat hangers, but other than that no issues with the facilities. I would love to visit again
A spacious and comfortable cottage on the edge of the village. A quiet and picturesque spot for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Great place to stay for a family of five adults, two children and two dogs. This spacious accommodation, with a large pleasant garden, was ideal for everyone. It's on the edge of Harrington village, a close 2 minute walk, yet private enough so we didn't have to worry if the dogs or children got a little excited. All the facilities we needed for our stay were within the village, boasting two pubs with good food, a famous cheese shop, farm shop, newsagents grocery and great local walks too. We took a short drive through the area's best kept secrets, the Dovedale and Manifold valleys to Ilam a popular destination where there are accessible walks along the river and more walks across the peaks. We also enjoyed a trip to the town of Bakewell and a ride on a cable car at Matlock Bath, All these destinations are just around 20 minutes or so away. We didn't have time to visit more of the Peak District or hire bikes to enjoy the numerous, safe, cycle trails built on old railway routes but I'm sure the Old Croft which we all loved, we be high on the agenda for another family visit!

Another lovely stay. A cosy comfortable property, with everything provided to enhance your pleasure. Even lit a log fire a novelty, well worth the effort & effect Great addition the table & chairs in the kitchen and collapsable clothes dryer in the utility. Only 2 of staying the space was just perfect Back in July
The property is situated on a quiet lane away from the main through road in the village. The garden is large but no section is enclosed so dogs have to be taken out on the lead. We read enclosed patio on the description as meaning securely enclosed, but found it not to be and I should have checked this. The furnishings are dated but comfortable. The kitchen is large and we would have liked a table and chairs in that room as we spent a lot of time there socialising while cooking etc. There was only a green garden bin so we werent sure where to put our recycling and general waste. The house book stated that there was 3 different coloured bins. A couple of dirty plates were found in the cupboard and some tissue in one of the beds. We would go back purely based on the space and quietness of the location.

We enjoyed our stay very much, thank you. It's a perfect house for a family getogether....spacious , clean , homely and comfortable. We loved that you could just stroll into the village for supplies and walks. The only thing we would have liked was a washing line or a clothes horse. We would definitely love to come back !!
Elaine
Firstly thank you Delightful cottage, beautiful gardens with everything you could wish for & more. Local amenities on the door step & yes probably 0.2mile away. A perfect holiday destination and accommodation Already booked for next year
A lovely clean, well equipped, place to stay,in the Peak District,,in a quiet lane . Near hartington
The house was perfect for our stay, spacious and comfortable. The only downside was the lack of kitchen equipment such a large pans and cooking utensils. The children would have appreciated more board games to play. The garden is beautiful with stunning views and lots of great walks from the front door.
Vincent
Excellent property and location will be back
Jeanette
Lovely house lovely village perfect for attending Chatsworth Christmas fair although the weather on the Saturday was abysmal we got back and lit the log burner then had a lovely welcome and comfort food meal at the Devonshire Arms in the village. My grandson age 6 loved playing Scrabble and Monopoly in our quieter moments ! We all enjoyed great amenities and for 7 of us lots of space too ! The entrance hall was super practical with the adverse wet weather. We would return ! Jx
Richard
Great house with plenty of room for the 4 of us. Well kitted out kitchen where the only thing lacking for us was some weighing scales. Lovely big garden with fantastic views and some good walks on your doorstep. One thing to note, the bin men came on Tuesday where the book says Wednesday. Dont know if this was a one off but we missed them soz.
Very good. Shame had to cut short our stay. Will re visit. Recommend
Lovely house. Very high standard of equipment, very clean.
A beautiful country house in a fantastic location. A well maintained, clean and spacious property in walking distance of the village. An excellent supply of kitchen ware, towels etc. We instantly fell in love with the house and village which made our holiday a fantastic break. I will definitely recommend this property and will return to make more family memories in the future.

The old croft is a lovely property and we had a fantastic time. The kitchen had everything you would need and the beds were very comfortable. The one issue we had was dealt with promptly through Sykes and the owners.
Christena
A lovely comfortable cottage. Plenty of space for our multi generational get together. Beautiful garden and amazing views. Good location for visiting the peaks and walking distance to the pub and small shops.
We all had such a lovely time at the old croft, its such a lovely house, the views are lovely and the garden is absolutely gorgeous, such a great setting in a beautiful village. Would definitely love to stay again in the future. All our family really enjoyed our stay. Great facilities and plenty of room for all of us.
Graham
We loved the house, we loved the garden, what would have been nice was an umbrella for the outside sitting area which facing south gets hot. Holiday brochures for the area would have been handy. We had a bit of a problem sorting the recycling for the correct bins could be made clearer. Otherwise everything you needed was there which gave us a great week.
Freyja
Beautifully situated, comfortable, well maintained cottage. The enclosed garden is perfect for children and the views are lovely. The village has everything you need with shops and two pubs that serve great food and is so close. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to come back.
